City of The Acacia’s – 2018

In the Spring of 2018, together with my colleagues and friend, I took a photo workshop in the Enigmatic City of Maputo. with my photography maestro Nicolas Pascarel. We had the feeling that we were the first group of foreign photographers in this intriguing City. Maputo has much to offer those with a discerning eye; from eclectic architecture, to colour beaches filled at the weekends with pleasant inquisitive locals, unaccustomed to mass tourism.

Il mare non bagna Napoli

Il mare non bagna Napoli

Il mare non bagna Napoli (“The Sea Does Not Bathe Naples”) is the title of a book published by Anna Maria Ortese in 1953; the book is a collection of short stories that depicts the difficulties, tragedy and the suffering of Naples after the war. The photos in this series were taken during a workshop with Nicolas Pascarel, in July 2017. I was inspired by the commission designed by Giovanna Bianco (Latronico, 1962) and Pino Valente (Naples, 1967), that speaks of the city where many are denied the opportunities and pleasures offered by the sea; this theme of the sea can be seen...

La Mansión Camagüey, Havana, Winter 2017

La Mansión Camagüey, Concordia #418, Centro Habana; Inside the fairly conventional exterior, is the stuff of dreams, a timeless gem, an architectural splendour;  built in 1913. The ardent "Morir por la Patria es vivir" ("To die for one's country is to live") etched on the walls of the former grand foyer. This building now houses one of Havana's most famous paladars, La Guarida. Hermosa Habana indeed. All photos were taken during a workshop in Havana with Nicolas Pascarel.  Key concepts taught during the workshop and put into practice for this specific photo narrative of this...

Stormy Weather- Havana

Pictures taken during workshop with Nicolas Pascarel, during the winter of 2017 and 2018. It expresses the gloom of a grey sky and flat light, yearning for the rays of the sun. Its also reflects the moods one often feels when one is devoid of sentiments or inspiration and needs the motivation to look for that sunshine which follows the storms, especially the warm, hot light of the tropics. The main theme of this workshop was building a photo series, narrative and photo stories. Nicolas was with us during the day, to direct us with our photography, and with the slideshows, critiqued and help us to build...

A weekend with acclaimed first generation of magnum photo journalists Bruno Barbey. The retrospective exhibition and book covering “The Italians” to his work with refugees and momentous events, the works and his charisma, made for a thoroughly inspirational photographic weekend.
